How Much Impact Can You Make with Reuse?

After 24 uses, KeepCups have a lower impact than disposable cups.

How Much Impact Can You Make with Reuse?

Apr 07, 2025 3 min(s) read

The choices we make each day add up to create a profound impact. By choosing reuse over single-use, individuals, workplaces, and cafés can prevent thousands of disposable cups from ending up in landfills. But what does that impact really look like?

To help quantify the difference, we partnered with sustainability consultancy Edge Environment to develop an Impact Calculator. This tool estimates the environmental savings of using a KeepCup instead of disposable alternatives—measuring carbon savings, waste reduction, and energy conservation.

Calculate Your Impact

Want to see how much of a difference your choices make? Use our Impact Calculator to forecast and track your carbon, energy, and waste savings by switching to reuse.

How Many Uses Does It Take for KeepCup to Make an Impact?

Sustainability is about long-term change, and we’re often asked: How many times do I need to use my KeepCup for it to be better than a disposable cup?

Our Life Cycle Analysis (LCA), conducted by Edge Environment, provides clear answers:

  • KeepCup Thermal: Breaks even with single-use cups after 66 uses.
  • KeepCup Original & Brew: Break even after 24 uses.

That means if you use your KeepCup every weekday, you'll have offset the environmental impact of its production within just five weeks.

Beyond the Cup: KeepCup’s Broader Impact

At KeepCup, we don’t just advocate for reusable cups—we push for systemic change in business, policy, and culture. Our commitment extends across multiple areas:

1. B Corp Certification: A Commitment to Accountability

As one of Australia's founding B Corps, we hold ourselves to the highest sustainability standards. Our current B Impact Score is 121.8, significantly exceeding the certification threshold of 80.

We’ve been recognized four times (2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022) as B Corp Best for the World Honourees in the Environment category showcasing our commitment to people and the planet.

2. Eliminating Single-Use Waste

We work with businesses, festivals, and institutions to drive large-scale adoption of reuse. Some of our impact partnerships include:

  • LinkedIn Dublin: Supporting a workplace-wide transition to reuse.
  • Australian Open: Helping media and broadcasting teams cut disposable cup use.
  • University of Leeds: Preventing 118,000 single-use cups from entering landfill.
  • Bank of England: Boosting reuse rates from 10% to 80% among 4,000 employees.

3. Circular Economy in Action

A truly sustainable product isn't just reusable—it must be repairable and recyclable. That’s why KeepCup is designed for durability and modularity:

  • Replacement parts available to extend the lifespan of every cup.
  • Recycling initiatives for plastics, glass, and stainless steel.
  • Innovative packaging solutions reducing plastic waste across our supply chain.

4. Carbon Reduction and Renewable Energy

We continuously work to lower our footprint:

  • Solar-powered offices since 2015 (AU) and 2018 (UK).
  • Rainwater harvesting in both AU and UK offices.
  • Sea freight over air freight to reduce transport emissions.
  • Local manufacturing & assembly to cut carbon miles.
